In early 2022, The New England Council announced the relaunch of what was previously known as the Technology Committee as a new Technology & Innovation Working Group.
The working group also incorporates the former Advanced Manufacturing Working Group. The Council’s former Technology Committee was established many years ago to bring together Council members in the traditional “technology” sector. However, we know that technology has now permeated every sector of our economy, and as such, technology policy is of interest to Council members across an array of industries. The cross-sector Technology & Innovation Working Group brings together Council members from a variety of sectors to work collaboratively on federal policy that impacts our region’s Innovation Economy more broadly.
Examples of some of the topics the working group focuses on include:
• Advanced Manufacturing
• Artificial Intelligence
• Broadband & 5G Connectivity
• Cybersecurity
• Data Privacy
• Intellectual Property
• Workforce Demands
The working group assists the Council in identifying federal policy proposals for possible advocacy, host relevant guest speakers, and identify topics that may be of interest for Council-wide programming. The working group is co-chaired by Joseph Donovan, Principal at Donovan Strategies, and Katie Enos, Senior Principal, Government Relations at The MITRE Corporation. The NEC staff liaison for the Technology & Innovation Working Group is Mariah Healy.
