Healthcare Committee Hosts Food Security Roundtable with Rep. McGovern

On November 2, 2022, The New England Council’s Healthcare Committee hosted a Roundtable Discussion on the Intersection of Food Security and Health Equity with U.S. Representative Jim McGovern (D-MA).  The roundtable was held in Boston, following a Capitol Hill Report breakfast event. Rep. McGovern is currently the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and a senior member of the Committee on Agriculture, where he has been a steadfast champion for combatting food insecurity.

The Healthcare Committee’s newly-established Health Equity Subcommittee identified food security as a top priority earlier this year.   During the hour-long discussion, the Congressman and committee members discussed the recent White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health and what additional steps can be taken by Congress and the business community. The conversation included a wide variety of insightful ideas and stories of local successes.  A wide array of Healthcare Committee members, including representatives of hospitals, community health centers, health insurance providers, and local non-profit organizations, participated in the discussion.

We are grateful to Rep. McGovern for taking the time to meet with our members.  For more information on the Council’s Healthcare Committee, please contact Sean Malone.
