New England Council Member, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA), has appointed Sarah Iselin as CEO of the insurance company. BCBSMA is one of the 50 largest private employers in Massachusetts. Iselin will take over for Andrew Dreyfus who has been the CEO for 12 years. She will be the first female to hold this position.
Sarah Iselin is the current executive vice president and chief operating officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of California; however, she will transition to her role of CEO of BCBSMA on January 1st, 2023. Iselin says that affordability in health insurance will be her top priority as she assumes her new leadership role. Iselin pulls her priorities from her own experiences as she wants to provide more support to build strong health equity and mental health programs. She also wants to focus on creating an engaging and organized working environment at BCBSMA. Citing the pressures created by the pandemic, Iselin is committed to creating a cohesive and energized workplace for the employees of BCBSMA.
Iselin said, “I stumbled into health care after college and it just immediately stuck with me as obviously something that touches each of us. For me, it just felt like an area where I could make a meaningful contribution and be challenged for my whole career. That’s what I’ve done.”
The New England Council would like to congratulate Sarah Iselin and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts on their commitment to equitable healthcare in New England.
