UMass Chan students receive $10K in funding for community health, advocacy initiatives
New England Council member, University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, has received $10,000 in grants for six community health-related projects. According to a Tuesday announcement from UMass Chan, these grants, which support student-organized projects within the T.H. Chan School of Medicine and the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing, come from the Mick Huppert Community Health Scholar Awards. These awards are named in honor of the late UMass Chan faculty member, Mick Huppert.
The winning projects aim to tackle issues such as telehealth disparities, evaluate the effectiveness of referral services for children receiving health insurance coverage, and aid in technological innovation in healthcare, among other priorities. These initiatives also involve efforts to provide mentorship, resource connecting, and support for asylum seekers.
The New England Council commends the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School on its student-organized community health projects and patient advocacy initiatives.
