Santander increases minimum hourly wage to $20
New England Council member, Santander, has increased its minimum wage to $20 per hour, according to a press release from the company. This wage increase, which is nearly triple the federal minimum wage, will apply to all employees who work in the bank’s branches, call centers, and corporate officers. This wage increase is in response to the surge of COVID-19 Omicron cases in the US and the in-person work that Santander employees conduct when servicing clients.
When speaking on the wage increase and its purpose, Santander US CEO Tim Wennes stated, “Our customer-facing team members across Santander US provide in-person support and business-critical services to our clients to help them achieve their financial goals.” He continues to assert that this wage increase “recognizes their hard work and contributions and ensures we remain competitive in the marketplace as we look to attract and retain top talent.”
The New England Council applauds Santander’s decision to recognize the hard work of its employees with its implementation of a minimum pay raise.
